Return to the Stockade
Context
The sound of a cannon sends Jim Hawkins and Ben Gunn running toward the anchorage. Jim crosses the sand spit and finds the Union Jack flying over a log-house.
Development
Ben Gunn refuses to go further and gives Jim secret messages for the squire. Jim climbs into the stockade and is welcomed by his friends, who believe he was lost.
Significance
The stockade becomes the loyal party's fortress. Jim's safe return closes his shore adventure and opens the prolonged siege that will test everyone on the island.
